Eliza, the first Canadian woman to win the 2015 TED Talk, is giving away her latest smartphone.
She was recently featured on CBC’s “The Gleaner” and has been featured on numerous television shows, including “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
She said she was inspired by a conversation she had with an Apple fan who said she couldn’t wait to start her own business, and she said she is looking forward to using the new phone to work from home and have a regular commute to the office.
“I feel like it’s an important moment in my life and a big gift for the world,” she said.
“If I’m not doing my job right, I can’t live.”
Eliza’s new phone is a Samsung Galaxy S8 with a fingerprint scanner, a camera and an 8 megapixel camera.
She also plans to buy a Samsung Pay app for use with her new device, and her new work emails will be stored on the phone.
Eliza said she has been able to work for the past few years as an assistant to a senior woman in the IT field, but has had to change her work routine.
She said she likes working with people, but she also wants to work out of her own home.
“It’s really empowering, really freeing, to be able to do what you love and be part of a group and just do it as a group,” she explained.
“You can’t just do the work you do for yourself and just get up and go home at night.
You need a group, you need people, you really need to be in a group.”
